Frequently asked questions

Physiotherapist, chiropractor or orthopaedic consultant?

With a fresh injury or persistent pain, start with the orthopaedic consultant, because imaging rules out what nobody can find by hand. Physiotherapy comes after that: it retrains the movement pattern, and most of the work happens at home between sessions. Manual therapy often helps in the short term but rarely fixes the cause on its own.

What should I ask at a first appointment?

How many sessions they expect, what measurable goal will show whether it is working, and what you need to do at home. If you leave without knowing the plan for the next three weeks, there was no plan.

How do I know when to switch?

When nothing measurable has changed after four to six sessions and the explanation never changes either. A good therapist raises the possibility of a different approach themselves, and knows who to refer you to.
