Beauty and wellness guides
Hairdressers, beauticians, nail techs and massage near you: how to choose a salon or independent pro, and what to ask before your first booking.
Finding a hairdresser or beautician you trust is rarely about price. It is about knowing what to ask for, and whether the person is willing to tell you honestly what will not work on your hair or your skin.
These guides cover the questions worth asking before a first appointment, what treatments really cost, and how the options differ, so none of it is a surprise once you are in the chair.

Frequently asked questions
What should I ask before a first appointment?
Whether they have worked with your hair or skin type before, how long they are setting aside, exactly what it costs, and what happens if you are unhappy with the result. Length and product change the price almost everywhere, so settle that in advance. Those four questions prevent most disappointments.
Why do I get very different prices for the same treatment?
Because it is rarely the same treatment. The difference is usually in the product, the time set aside, and whether the consultation, wash and blow-dry are included. Ask for an itemised answer and the prices move much closer together.
How far ahead should I book?
Two to three weeks is realistic for someone in demand, longer for lengthy treatments. For a wedding or a large event, book months ahead and arrange a trial well before the date.
What do I do if I do not like the result?
Say so while you are still there. Most professionals will correct it if they hear immediately, and most problems are far easier to fix while they are fresh. A review written days later helps nobody, least of all your hair.
